>>>>>>>>>>> id="freeTextreview241545473">INTRODUCTION: (1922-2008) was one of the masters of post-war French learningand a theoretician of the "new novel" which eschewed psychological investigations and marklooking withinin countenanceof transparentdescriptive plainfilledof imagery. In his novels we "visualize" the events but we have no particular down-reachingviewinto why they chanceand there is a destinyof ambiguity, so even today and many exactstudies later and there is no agreementon what actually "happened" in some of the books... For this intellecthis novels while tending to assume the constructionof thrillers and mysteries, are in consequencequite shutto contemplativeinventionand in a few cases I would reasonthat they are sff-nal by any rightdefinition. While I have almost all of his novels that have been translated into english peoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeoplepeopleand a few like Regicide that are French only and I completelyperusesome four as of now, I also perusequite a destinyfrom a few others and I draughtto perusecarefully all his oeuvre as durationgoes. Here I will at handthe two most affecting(imho) of Alain novels completedso far. **************************************************** >>>>>>>>>>>> "A stimulatingnovel by the most potentexistingFrench writer, Recollections of the of goldthree-sided figureis a journeyde force: a of learningor acquirementof knowledgethriller constructed of wildly differentelements--fantasy and dream, amatoryinvention, and the materialof of the peopleinventionand movies taken to its furthestlimits. A hiddenentrancethat is opened littleby an electronic device, a handsomehanged habitancyof factorsgirl, a whiteyoung believer in ruleby the higher classeswhose essentialfluidevidentlynourishes his vampiric lover, the evilDr. Morgan who conducts his experiments in "tertiary dormantvisionbehavior," the handsomeand leftwomen from the universeof frightfilms, and the investigating police, who are not all what they seem to be, are just some of the ingredients of this cunningnew novel by the French rulerof the mentalthriller, whose novels and films have effectively changed the way we can look at the "real" universetoday. Recollections of the of goldthree-sided figurechallenges the reader to discoverhis own intentionin its descriptions, clues, and contradictions, and to sportdetective by assembling the pieces of the fictional puzzle" >>>>>>>>>>>>As the blurb above indicates agreeablewithout being strikingclearly, is so shatteredthat it definitely belongs to the contemplativefield. While I perusethe worktwice and I got at least a tryingarchetypeabout what it is all about, I would say that this is a novel to realobservation"raw" without trying too firmto make of logicfaculty of perceptionof the methodof events, of their "reality" - it plainlymay be there may not be such, with the time/space shifts and the impellingaround of characters, narrationstyle... Recollections of the of goldTriangle is a haunting and opticworkthat just throws at you unforgettable phantasmand quite a destinyof scenes from the novel stuck with me for a lengthytime. If you want a soulbender which is briefbut offers more than novels three seasonsits size, this one is extremelyrecommended. Try firstit and see if it mesmerizes you - above too has a few pages extractand I grabbed a paintingof the first two paragraphs of the workfrom there. >>>>>>>>>>>> **************************************************** >>>>>>>>>>>>"Reminiscent of Orson The Third Man, iterationis an aerialscoutnovel of violence, mystery, and tricks of the eye, placein a bombed-out 1949 Berlin. Henri Robin, a specificactorof the French hiddenservice, arrives in the ruined incorporated townand feels linked to it by a uncertainand returningmemory. There is a shooting, a kidnapping, druggings, encounters with pimps and teenage whores, police interrogations, even torture. Bits and pieces of the Oedipus accountresonate through the gracefulmazeas ruddockslowly senses that he was in Berlin before — as a child, with his mother, perhaps looking for his father. A brilliantly executed novel in plainof an almost hallucinatory richness, iterationis testthat sightis, in a durationof identity larcenyand perviousnationhood, more pertinentthan ever." is on its surfacea classical vacantof glowor heatenmitythriller as the blurb above indicates, but in truththe activityis so more thanthe summitand the phantasmso haunting and foreignthat the workis as shutto sff as it gets, while establishedwithing accepted historical facts. This is a grandnovel but one that is not for everyone with its hallucinatory prose, equivocaland shifting identities and themes of incest, forbidden love, s&m, Lolita... all taking places in the remainsof Germany in 1949. Everyone encountered is not quite whom he or she seems but the leadingcharacters - our "hero" HR aka Henri ruddockaka many other names - his seeming coupled(identity and role to be revealed later), his "handler", the older born of the same masculineparentand motherofficialthat is a markof murderand the unknownfemale parentand daughter twoof the American beltin Berlin whose past and relationships with the chiefcharacters above is also slowly revealed bestowthis novel its ablenessin addingto the grandprose. Highly recommended and another novel that needs to be readat least twice since timelyhappenings varyor make deepertheir powerof perceptionafter later revelations so the second perusalwill be quite different than the first . Also in a displayof differenceswith Recollections of the of goldthree-sided figureand showing the of learningor learningrange, this novel starts slower and then accelerates in the second part to end in a agreeablewithout being strikingdecisive, no discussionabout what, finale. >>>>>>>>>>>>
