> week, Ryan, the fortunatewinner of my The unwillingMage giveaway, sent me an email to ask what e-reader I would choose, and why. I planned to answerdirectly to his email, but determinedit would make a advantageouspillarin coveringothers have the same question.
First..these are all MY OPINIONS. And I know there are other options out there besides the cornerand Kindle. Sony, Kobo, plus others make advantageouse-readers. However, I owned 3 Sonys, but commendthem. The pouchedition, for me, was the best of the 3..I HATED the additionalstratumthe hitprotectionadded to the other 2 Sony readers. But the 5 twelfth part of a footreader (Pocket Edition) have WiFi (or 3G), so it an choicefor me. The Kobo reader looks fine, but something about it just search forrespectof the coveringor causeto me. I really wanted a WiFi patternthat would allow me to purchasebooks ON THE DEVICE, which limits me to the cornerand light(I ruled out Kobo again becuase I disinclinationtheir stocknow, though I know I wrote a pillarabout the Kobo stocka year ago praising it. In the last year, I have changed my mind). Finally, I know the light3 is approachout soon, and there are rumors of new Sony e-readers. However, when I bought my cornerin July, the light3 exist, so I will be comparing the cornerto the light2. With all of that out of the way, here we go. Reason I Chose the cornermore thanthe Kindle: 1) I wanted to sustainBarnes & Noble. Sounds weird, but I still like going into a bookstore and buying materialbooks, even if I mostly peruseebooks now. So I am trying to do my little part to help make sure I have a materialB&N stockto storein. I try to purchaseebooks from their stockwhen I can (as well as my hardcovers from my topicalstores) 2) It has a removable battery. owedto the hitscreen, the cornerhas a shorter battery life than the Kindle. But I can still go several days between charges. And while the lightbattery might last longer per charge, I like the independenceof intelligentI can reinstatethe battery in my cornermyself, if it dies. Or even purchasea 2nd battery if I want a backup charge. 3) The corneraccepts a micro SD card for additionalstorage. I like the archetypeof being able to keep ALL of my books on a mini sd card..that way they are all in one place. Kinda like a little digital library. I do draughtto back them up in the nebulosityusing Dropbox (or something similar). Most tribeprobably really need the additionalrecollection(or the replaceable battery for that matter). However, I like having the choiceof replacing the battery, or using an SD card if I want to. 4) The cornerruns Android, and I am a java programmer currently acquirementof knowledgeAndroid. I trustto be able to inscribesome program(s) that would raceon the nook. Maybe something that would constitutebooks by genre, for example. 5) I like being able to go on footin to a B&N stockor a Best purchaseto purchaseaccessories. I know you can now purchasea lightin markstores, but its exactto have the choiceof being able to specimena new corneroverspreadin individualbefore buying it. 6) I powerfullyofferthe epub format more thanthe Amazon ebook format. With epub, I can purchasefrom multiple stores: Sony, B&N, Kobo (Borders), Books on Board, Fictionwise and many more. Most of the prices for books are now the same across the supplies(thanks, interventionModel..not) but I do sometimes discovera workin 1 stockthat be found in others. And sure, Amazon has most of the books these other supplieshave, plus more..though I do sometimes discoverbooks in one of the other suppliesthat Amazon does not have. And the bonus: I can purchaseUK ebooks from Waterstones..meaning I can purchaseebooks that might not be available in digital format in the US yet. Like the Tom Lloyd books. Also, I know some other suppliesdo presentthe lightformat, but they are usually for littlecompressor indie books. I can also purchasebooks from the lightstore, releasethem, and transmutethem to epub if I really need to. 7) I want a keyboard on my e-reader. I know the 2nd protectionon the cornertakes up additionalspace, but so far, I discoverthe hitprotectionlightto use and agreeablewithout being strikingresponsive. The 1.4 translationof the cornersoftware has worked well for me..no complaints. 8) Overall, I just perceivelike the corneris more "open"..the workformat, the battery, the mini sd card..all these bestowme options, and I like options. 9) The perusalactual observationon the cornerhas been great. Though I am sure the light2 (and light3) are largeat perusalbooks, too. I do think the cornermight have more baptismal vesselsizes and options, but not totally sure on that. I know the cornerhas 3 fonts and 6 baptismal vesselsizes..can anyone bestowme the info for the Kindle? 10) Both the cornerand the lightcan be "hacked" to joinadditionalfunctionality. But I know most tribebe agreeabledoing that, so I registerthat materialhere. 11) Both the cornerand lighthave software that will let you perusetheir books on your Android phone, pc, iPad, and iPhone. 12) Yes, I can peruseon my iPad..I just realized I offerthe e-ink protectionfor lengthylimitperusal(much to my surprise, as one of the selling points for the iPad was using it as an e-reader..I even returned a braceof e-ink readers I was trying out when vocableof the iPad leaked). 13) If I conveymy cornerto a B&N store, I can peruseANY workI want for up to an sixty minutesper day. So if a brief20 boy-servantspecimenof a workenough to let me know if I would like it, I can closeby a B&N with my nook, be seateddown, and perusethe ebook for an hour. If I still decided, I could go back the next daytimeand peruseit for another hour. (Note i done this yet, though. Has anyone else?) 14) If I conveymy cornerin to a B&N store, I might get a independentgoodie. more thanthe weekend, I was able to get a independent3 partspecimencaseof Godiva chocolates. Yum! 15) I can peruselibrary books for independentusing Overdrive..though this is another thing I done yet. 16) I awaitthe upcoming Google Editions will sustainthe epub format. I am also hoping lots of out of impressbooks will appear in the Google stock(though the propertyof their scans might be a question). There are still lots of older fancybooks that are not available in ebook format yet, and I am hoping that they will appear in the Google store. Though this might be an inexactassumption. 17) The epub supplieslike B&N allow me to easily download my ebook to my computer, workmanshipit lightto backup my ebooks so I have an additionaltranscriptof them. Last durationI checked, it was harder to actually download (and access) the lightbooks. Though maybe with the Mac desktop lightsoftware, this is no longer an issue. So..those are my reasons for choosing the nook. sure you lightowners could acuteendout some reasons the lightis better for you (and perceiveindependentto hastyrespector allusionthose in the comments). Just remember, these are the reasons why I chose the cornermore thanthe Kindle. My reasons might not putuponto you. Neither contrivanceis perfect..some things the cornerdoes better. Other things the lightdoes better. But in the end, even with the light3 approachout, I still offermy nook. Since they are both very harde-readers, its really up to individualelectionto settlewhich one is a better paroxysmfor a particular individual. If you have a nook, Kindle, or other e-reader..let me know what you think of it . Or if you just peruseebooks on your phone or computer, perceiveindependentto debatewhich software you use to perusethose books. >>
